Woolworths! This is where i will do my shopping for the whole entire 5 weeks cos this is the only supermarket that i am able to get to and back without getting lost! haha..

In my room. Pretty ok actually. Bad thing is, only one power point which is hidden high high up! Good thing is, power is free!! Happy! Have been using the heater loads.

Main entrance of Timaru Hospital. Looks so hospital like yah.. guess anyone can guess it right just by the look of it! All blue and white. Eeks

View from somewhere higher up overlooking the beach!! Weather was really good. Reached a freaking 27 degrees! Good weather, blue skies and a very free week with only 2 patients in our team.. Blissfull :P
Went walking along the beach and i must say this is like the best beach i have ever been to in NZ! Probably decision was biased due to the superb weather. But oh well.. wonderful !

Guess the first week in Timaru was pretty exciting. Will see how the other 4 weeks go.

I'm in Timaru, one of the towns in the South Island. Its smaller than Dunedin if u guys are wondering haha.. And this is the house i get to live in here for the next 5 weeks
The Kitchen
The lounge with sofas and a heater
3 bins, one for rubbish, one for recycling and the other for compost
And the house from the outside
The oven... which makes a super loud noise like its in pain after it gets heated to around 150 degrees...
The house is not too bad tho a bit too small. It has 3 bedrooms and only 2 of us living here. No microwave and tv, which means nothing to watch and nothing to reheat my food. Quite a nuisance. Not as bad as others before me have said it was or probably because my expectations were lower after being told it was bad. Will post more pics of Timaru up! Till then :)

More pics :)

Shanghai Xiao long bao, what i think is the best dim sum in the restaurant. There is usually 5 and someone couldnt resist the temptation to eat a few before the pic was took haha
Char Siew bao, really massive ones :)
Lotus leaf glutinous rice. not the best
Xiu mai :) one of my favourites
Shanghai fried soup dumplings (funny name) this tastes like the shanghai xiao long bao but the skin is much thicker and with lots of stuffing inside too. Nice but i still prefer the xiao long bao

Made devil's food cake today!! Was craving for this cake which i recently ate at Strawberry Fare in Chch. Yummilicious! So let the pics do the talking :)

Hmm.. this pic should actually come after the whole cake right? But nah.. who cares.. haha

Freshly baked cake out from the oven. My cake always either bulges or sinks in the middle!
I followed the following recipe but since it is impossible to purchase cake flour here in Dunedin, i found a website that said i can use all purpose flour. Surprise surprise.. when i opened my ever stucked cabinet door, i only have plain flour or self raising flour! Oh no another disaster.. So, i checked another website and they said i can use plain flour in replacement of all purpose flour. Phew.. so yea.. it was an adventure.

FAVORITE DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE

1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 pound butter, soft (1/2 cup)
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
3 egg yolks
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups cake flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup milk
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Cream sugars and butter. Add melted chocolate. Beat yolks; add water and vanilla extract and blend. Gradually add yolk mixture to chocolate mixture; beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Alternately add flour mixture and milk, blending well after each addition. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry, fold into batter.

Turn into two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans or one greased and floured 13x9x2-inch cake pan. Bake layers or loaf in moderate oven 350 F about 30-35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly.

Turn out on cooling rack. Yield: two 9-inch layers or one 13x9x2-inch loaf.

1 cup of all purpose flour minus 2 tablespoons plus 2 tbsp cornstarch as a substitute for 1 cup of cake flour
